OLD TOWN – The Penobscot Federal Credit Union held the grand opening Tuesday of its new main office building at 205 Main St.

The two-story, 6,400-square-foot building was formerly Brookings and Smith Funeral Home, but was renovated by Payton ME Corp. and many local subcontractors to include a multiple-lane drive-through, more space and enhanced technology.

The credit union formerly was located down the street in a smaller building with a single-lane drive-through.

Since its charter 38 years ago, Penobscot County Federal Credit Union has grown to nearly 6,900 members and nearly $34 million in assets.
