Nathan Cote, originally from Limestone, has been elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives. Cote defeated incumbent Republican Minority Whip Terry Marquardt as representative in House District 53, which includes the cities of Alamogordo and Las Cruces.

As priorities for the upcoming session Cote has identified improved flood control and roads, a comprehensive state-wide health insurance plan, and economic development initiatives that would result from using alternative energy sources.
