AUGUSTA – Recounts in two Maine legislative races on Thursday confirmed the unofficial outcomes after last week’s elections.

The recount of House District 81 ballots confirmed Republican Gary Knight of Livermore Falls as the winner. Democrat Clark Souther of Livermore Falls requested the recount after unofficial results from Election Day indicated that he lost the election.

In House District 43, a recount confirmed that Republican Jayne Crosby Giles of Belfast was victorious over Democrat Walter Ash Junior of Belfast.

So far, none of the six recounts has changed the 89-60 House majority Democrats won on Nov. 7. Two independents also won House seats.

Eight more recounts are scheduled, beginning with two on Friday in Districts 7 and 94.
