HAMPDEN – Fire crews from Hampden and Bangor responded to a report of a fire in a duplex at 18 Schoolhouse Lane on Friday afternoon.

Owners Sean and Jennifer Baker and their two children got out of the house safely. The tenants of the other side of the duplex were not home at the time. The fire was reported a little before 5 p.m.

Lt. Frank Coombs of the Hampden Fire Department said the fire started when a cat knocked over an electric light in the front bedroom. The light shorted and set a basket of clothing on fire.

The fire was contained to the bedroom and was quickly put out.
