A Newport man shot himself in the foot Friday afternoon as he prepared to go hunting alone off U.S. Route 2. David Roundy, 44, had loaded his .300-caliber Winchester Magnum and was putting on his outside garments when he reached inside his vehicle to answer his cellular telephone and his gun discharged, according to district Warden Durward Humphrey of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The bullet broke several bones in Roundy’s foot and he required medical treatment, Humphrey said Saturday.
