BREWER – Brewer Education Association members last week endorsed a new contract that will be presented to the school board in December.
The Brewer School Committee endorsed the draft contract Nov. 6 and will vote on ratification during its Dec. 4 meeting, Superintendent Daniel Lee said Monday.
It is expected to be ratified.
Details of the new contract will not be released until the meeting, Lee said.
Brewer High School teacher Terry Hopkins, who is the BEA’s chief negotiator, said Monday that the teachers’ union voted in favor of the contract Nov. 14.
“We did pass it in our vote,” he said.
Approximately 100 of the 130 BEA members voted on the issue.
“It passed by a good margin,” Hopkins said.
Teacher contracts for Brewer, which recently have been for three years, expired at the end of August.
Over the last few months the school board has held several closed-door meetings to discuss the issue.
The school committee approved a 3 percent pay raise for support staff, administration and the superintendent in June.
