Good news. Oil prices have fallen again. Wind power projects are taking shape and tidal power is coming to Eastport
All good signs for Mainers.
The bad news is Bangor Hydro, in recognition of commercial customers leaving the system and Mainers energy conservation measures (BDN 11-19-06) is raising the rates for delivering electrical energy.
At least for residential customers, just in time for Christmas.
Great, Mainers conserve energy and Bangor Hydro goes after their wallets with renewed vigor. What next?
Surely, just after the latest election the time for leadership could never be more urgent. Tax relief and healthcare reform all top the list for mandatory improvements. And right alongside is an energy policy we can all afford.
So who is calling the shots here in Maine?
The board of directors at Bangor Hydro?
Gov. Baldacci?
The latest call for a rate increase by Bangor Hydro signals the urgency for reform and leadership.
