Hampden native Erin Campbell, a senior soccer player at the University of Maine-Farmington, has been named a 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American for the second time.
A second-team selection this year, Campbell was also an Academic All-American following the 2004 season.
Campbell, who maintains a 3.99 grade-point average in elementary education and English, was named a North Atlantic Conference soccer first-teamer this fall. She amassed seven goals and two assists for 16 points, the second-highest total on the team.
She finished her career with 116 points, including 46 goals.
Rideout added to Colby staff
Former UMaine-Farmington basketball and softball player Brandi Rideout has joined the Colby College women’s basketball coaching staff. She is a 2006 UMF graduate.
Rideout, a native of Mattawamkeag and a graduate of Lincoln’s Mattanawcook Academy, made 12 starts for the Beavers and averaged 5.6 points per game in her senior year. She was one of the top hitters on the UMF softball team that captured the North Atlantic Conference championship in 2005.
Rideout will handle a variety of duties, including scouting, program development, strength and conditioning, and recruiting under coach Lori Gear McBride.
Seven other assistant coaching positions also have been filled at the Waterville school.
Matt Boobar will serve as an assistant for the men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams; Mike Booras will handle similar duties for the Alpine ski teams; Karina Johnson and Gene Roy are joining the indoor track staff and Mason Johnson III is being added to the men’s basketball staff.
Becky Peters is a new assistant for the women’s hockey team and Olga Wojcik is assisting the swimming programs.
