Separate incidents lead to OUI arrests near Ramada Inn

BANGOR – Two separate incidents near the Ramada Inn resulted in drivers being arrested early Thursday morning for operating while under the influence.

According to police reports, around 12:45 a.m., Officer Kerry Libby was patrolling the inn parking lot when she had to avoid a Jeep speeding through the parking lot. Libby gestured to the driver, but was ignored. The officer then was flagged down by a woman in the parking lot who said the driver struck a parked car when backing up.

Libby radioed officers to watch for the Jeep, but didn’t have to look far. According to the police report, as Libby drove around the Travelodge side of the Ramada, the Jeep came speeding at Libby and attempted to go around the cruiser, but Libby put her emergency lights on and blocked the vehicle.

Driver Jessica Jones, 31, of Bangor told Libby she hadn’t had enough to drink to be drunk, but failed field sobriety tests and refused to complete a breathalyzer at the police station. A short while later, Bangor police Officer Wade Betters spotted a white car approach the Ramada parking lot, but the driver appeared unsure of where to turn. According to police reports, the car turned onto Banair Road, but didn’t slow down and “bounced up and down over bumps near the roadside,” according to the police report. After going around the side of the building the car headed back onto Hammond Street.

“The driver steered too far right and the car ended up on the grass,” Betters wrote in his report.

Driver Nathan Faloon, 32, of Sebec then got out of the vehicle and went to swap places with a female passenger.

“She admitted [Faloon] shouldn’t be driving,” Betters reported. “He openly admitted that he wasn’t safe to drive.”

Faloon told Betters he had consumed seven beers since 8:30 p.m. Faloon failed field sobriety tests and his blood-alcohol level was .18.

Both Faloon and Jones were arrested and are scheduled to appear at 3rd District Court in Bangor on Dec. 21.

BANGOR – A driver took out a fence Wednesday evening when his Jeep left the road and rolled over.

Michael Fowlow, 18, of Glenburn was headed toward Bangor on Essex Street around 6:20 p.m. when he started to turn around a right-hand bend and his tires left the road, according to police reports. Fowlow lost control of the vehicle and slid across the road into a post and beam fence at 1805 Essex St. The 1995 Jeep rolled over and took out a second fence before coming to rest.

BANGOR – An Orland woman was arrested for shoplifting at Wal-Mart after the store’s loss prevention officer spotted her unwrapping DVDs and placing them in her 2-month-old baby’s car seat that was in her shopping cart.

Gail Curtis, 22, was arrested Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. She allegedly tried to steal Quaker oatmeal, Baby Orajel, White Out, Scotch tape, L’Oreal hair dye, Huggies diapers and two DVDs.

She was allegedly concealing the items in her baby’s car seat and diaper bag while walking through the store.
