Maine hunters, take aim! Reality show creators taking entries

I thought it might happen, but now there’s even reality television for those who live to hunt – and I know several Mainers who should enter.

The World Hunting Association is taking casting calls for the latest in reality television. The grand prize, which will be awarded to one male and one female, includes a pro staff contract with WHA and a spot on a reality television hunting show.

Four male and four female finalists will be invited on a hunting excursion in 2007.

Entering is easy for anyone who wants to show off their hunting skills.

Just send a video clip and brag about why you want to be a hunter, a 1,000-word article on the future of the hunting industry, a 300-word hunting tip (for those of you who aren’t afraid to give away your trade secrets), and up to 10 photos of yourself with your favorite hunting trophies. Entries are due Jan. 1, 2007, and voting begins Jan. 10.

WHA members will select the top 10 finalists online at www.worldhunt.com before the association makes the final pick.

In addition to deer season, ’tis the season for renewing reality contracts, and several favorites will be coming back, including “Dancing With the Stars.”

The show, which recently concluded another record-breaking ratings season, is scheduled to debut its fourth season in March.

ABC is holding off airing the start of the season earlier to make sure the popular reality show airs during May sweeps.

MTV is bringing back “Celebrity Fit Club” and recently announced that the cast will include Maureen McCormick of “The Brady Bunch,” Dustin Diamond from “Saved By The Bell,” pop star Tiffany, and Ross “The Intern” Mathews from “The Tonight Show.”

If you haven’t had enough of the modeling scene, E! is bringing back 10 half-hour episodes of “The Girls Next Door.”

With a tentative launch date of next spring, the third season will revisit the lives of three Playboy models and their everyday routines at the magazine’s trademark Playboy Mansion.

The show reportedly is E!’s highest rated original broadcast program in three years, according to Reality TV News.

And before it’s even over, there are rumors that ABC will bring back “The Bachelor” for a tenth run.

Viewers might not have a chance to recover from Monday night’s finale before the show begins again with the season 10 premiere tentatively scheduled for sometime in late spring.

For all you “Bachelor” fans, don’t miss the finale at 9 p.m. Monday on ABC.
