MVP Flaherty leads Bowdoin to tourney title St. Joe’s defeats UM-Machias

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Tournament MVP Eileen Flaherty scored 22 points to lead Bowdoin College past Montclair State University 86-46 Sunday to win the Montclair State/William Paterson Classic in women’s basketball action.

In the consolation game, William Paterson downed Colby College 79-66.

In the championship final, Jill Anelauskas scored 14 points for the Polar Bears and Marisa Berne added 13 points. Katie Cummings had four steals.

Ferin Catlett paced Montclair State with 13 points.

In the consolation game, Lucila Custis scored 22 points to lead William Paterson. Lori Custis added 16 points, and Michelle Pellichero added 13 points and had 7 assists.

Tracy Nale of Waterville led Colby with 15 points.

At Wayne, N.J., Saturday, Montclair State knocked off Colby College 57-39 and Bowdoin defeated William Paterson 69-55 in the Montclair State/William Paterson Classic.

In the first game, Stephanie Machin scored 20 points for Montclair State.

Tracy Nale paced Colby with 17 points.

In the second game, Eileen Flaherty scored 26 points on a 10-for-13 effort from the field to lead Bowdoin.

Marissa Berne and Leah Rubega each chipped in with 10 points for the winners of Brunswick. Rubega also had seven rebounds and Jill Anelauskas had eight.

Lucila Custis paced William Paterson by scoring 19 points.

At Waterville on Sunday, Bowdoin went on a 16-2 scoring run in the first half en route to its victory.

Jordan Fliegel paced the winners of Brunswick with 18 points, Kevin Bradley added 15 and Kyle Jackson put in 13.

Aecio Madeira led Thomas with 18 points, Darrel Alexander netted 15 and Adam Blodgett had 10.

Women’s hockey

Maine 10, Sacred Heart 4

At Bridgeport, Conn., Sonia Corriveau and Pam Patterson each scored two goals and provided two assists to lead the University of Maine by Sacred Heart University on Saturday.

Katie Sunstrum and Robyn Law scored two goals apiece for the Black Bears. Brigitte Laflamme added a goal and two assists and Jenna Ouellete scored a goal. Vanessa Vani provided three assists as Rachel Gettings stopped 15 of 19 shots.

Michelle Panella scored two goals and had an assist to pace Sacred Heart. Gina Arnone and Alexis Dedousis each added a goal. Stephanie Boulay and Sarah Perry combined to make 32 saves on 42 shots.
