It’s tough to imagine going into an upscale restaurant, expecting great service and great food, ordering, say a T-bone steak and a glass of the very best pinot noir and being served a Slim Jim and a cup of Riunite.
Well that’s the type of fare that some people are dining on throughout the U.S. even though they’ve ordered and paid for what they think is lobster.
I’m appalled that the FDA is allowing restaurants to serve pelagic crab and pass if off as lobster by calling it “langostino lobster,” a creature that does not actually exist. It’s an affront to one of Maine’s most precious industries and is downright fraudulent.
It took the FDA no time at all to wrongly divine the creature as real lobster and now they’re saying that they don’t have the resources to fix the mistake. Considering that this glitch is costing Maine’s economy millions of dollars in lost revenue, I insist that the FDA act now. The economy of Maine and my family depends on it.
