HAMPDEN – Those in need in the Hampden-Winterport area got a boost thanks to the generosity of the members and employees of Maine Savings Federal Credit Union and its affiliates CUSO Mortgage, Security Title and Business Lending Solutions.

In keeping with The Maine Credit Union League’s commitment to ending hunger in Maine, Maine Savings FCU, along with its affiliates, sponsors a month-long food drive each October, benefiting the Hampden Food Cupboard and the Winterport Neighborhood Cupboard. A box is placed in the Maine Savings lobby for members and employees to fill with nonperishable food.

This year, in addition to the box in the lobby, two bake sales were held. Maxine Harmon, receptionist at Maine Savings coordinated the sales.

According to Maxine, “all of the items sold at the bake sales were homemade by the employees of Maine Savings FCU and its affiliates. Everyone generously donated time, talent and recipes to help this worthy cause. Both sales were a tremendous success and netted a profit of $655, which was used to purchase even more nonperishable foods. Needless to say, our lobby box was overflowing.”

The food was given to the Hampden Food Cupboard and Winterport Neighborhood Cupboard in time for the holiday season.
