ORONO – Three players have signed National Letters of Intent for the University of Maine volleyball team, coach Lynn Atherley announced.
Emily Root of Barrington Hills, Ill., Megan Smith of Dayton, Ohio, and Paige Tortorello of Mundelein, Ill., have all committed to attending UMaine next fall.
Root, a 5-foot-9 setter from Barrington High School, led her team to a fourth-place finish in the state playoffs this past season. Smith, a 6-0 outside hitter, helped guide Bellbrooke High School to the Southwestern Buckeye League championship in 2006 and was named the league’s MVP. The 5-9 Tortorello was named an All-Area setter by the News Sun Press, an All-Conference setter, and an All-Suburban Conference first-team setter.
