The Bagaduce Chorale, under the direction of Bronwyn Kortge and accompanied by Mary Cheyney Gould and the Blue Hill Brass, will perform a holiday concert, “Sound the Trumpet,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, and 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the First Congregational Church in Blue Hill.
The concert will highlight Mozart’s “Vesperae de Dominica,” Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata” and several other seasonal songs of jubilation. The addition of the Blue Hill Brass and a small chamber orchestra will bring a textured sound to these choral masterpieces. Leading the soloists is soprano Karen Pendleton of Bangor. A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Pendleton won first place in the 1995 Maine NATS competition and has performed as soloist with numerous area ensembles.
The program also will include spirituals, seasonal favorites and songs of fanfare and jubilation. A small group of singers from the chorale will perform three popular Christmas songs, and the audience will have an opportunity to join by singing familiar holiday favorites.
The Bagaduce Chorale is made up of more than 80 auditioned singers from Hancock County. Members range in age from teens to seniors, and include doctors, builders, lawyers, bankers, fishermen, educators and retirees, all of whom share one common goal: to make beautiful music together for their enjoyment and for the pleasure of the community.
Suggested donations of $12 may be made at the door. Seating is not reserved. For information, call 374-5897.
