A Glenburn man was arrested Thursday for apparently knocking down a woman in the Miller Drug parking lot in Bangor on Monday and stealing her pain medication, Lt. Tim Reid, a detective with the Bangor Police Department, said Thursday afternoon.

Jeffery Lewis, 42, was arrested on a charge of Class B robbery Thursday morning in connection with the incident and was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Thursday evening on $5,000 cash bail.

The woman Lewis allegedly accosted was on crutches when she was attacked around 5:30 p.m. Monday. Darvocet is the brand name of the pain medication that was stolen. Those convicted of Class B robbery can face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Bangor police, along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, are investigating a fire that damaged a vacant home on Fern Street early Thursday morning. When firefighters arrived, flames were visible in the home’s basement and on the first floor, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bostock said Thursday afternoon.

The building’s owner is in the middle of renovating the structure. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, preventing extensive damage, Bostock said.

The emergency call was received at 5:15 a.m. by the Fire Department.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

The city’s electrician, investigators from Bangor Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office were at the scene Thursday investigating the fire. The cause had not been determined as of press time, but it is believed to have started near the home’s basement furnace.
