AUGUSTA – In remembrance and honor of Capt. Benjamin D. Keating, Gov. John Baldacci has directed that the United States flag and the Maine flag be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday, Dec. 6.

A University of New Hampshire graduate whose parents live in Shapleigh, Maine, Capt. Keating served as a member of the Army and died in a truck accident in Kamdesh, Afghanistan, on Nov. 26.

His mother, Elizabeth Keating, said troops routinely drive after dark without lights on because vehicles on that road come under attack.

Capt. Keating’s memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Springvale, where Elizabeth Keating is senior pastor.
