OLD TOWN – Homes and businesses along at least four streets were without water for much of Tuesday after a main broke at the intersection of Stillwater Avenue and Michael Street, near a McDonald’s restaurant.

“We have not been notified that we have water back as of yet,” Deputy Fire Chief Jim Lavoie said about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The main broke around 9:30 a.m., leaving residents on Free and Spring streets, the Old Town end of Bennoch Road, and Stillwater Avenue to the Orono line without water.

When Lavoie spoke to water district employees earlier in the day, he was told the crew expected to have water restored by the end of the day.
