WARREN – A Waterville man was killed Thursday morning when the car he was driving was struck by a truck.

Lt. Terry Burgess, patrol administrator with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, said Daryl Reynolds, 65, was traveling north on Western Road. While crossing Route 90, his 1994 Nissan Sentra was struck broadside by a truck traveling west on Route 90.

The crash was reported at about 11:10 a.m.

The 2006 Freightliner truck, which was empty, is registered to Monson Cos. of South Portland, and was driven by Randy Sawyer, 51, no address available, Burgess said. Sawyer was not injured.

Reynolds was transported by ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where he was pronounced dead. A dog in Reynolds’ car was being cared for at an area veterinary clinic.

Speed and alcohol were initially ruled out as causes, Burgess said, but the collision is being reconstructed by Deputy Tom Welch to determine the cause.

Officers plan to inquire whether a bank near the intersection had outside security cameras that may have captured the collision, he said. Several witnesses will also be interviewed, Burgess said.
