PRESQUE ISLE – Sarah Porter scored five of her 16 points in the final two minutes as the Presque Isle opened up defense of its 2006 Class B state championship with a 50-45 victory over John Bapst Saturday in high school action.

Angela Norsworthy scored 16 points and added six steals for Presque Isle, which had a 12-0 run to end the third quarter. The game was a rematch of last year’s Eastern Maine Class B title contest won by the Wildcats 43-35.

Hillary Laferriere led John Bapst of Bangor with 18 points. Lauren Nichols had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Shawn Hird and Corey Larue each scored a goal and provided an assist for 0-1 Edward Little. Adam Loudermilk made 23 saves on 29 shots.

At Orono, Dylan Fitzpatrick logged a hat trick and added an assist to help the Witches power past the Red Riots.

Reid McLaughlin chipped in with to goals, and Matt Helfen had one goal and one assist. Mike Kotredes, Nick Risser, and Dave Perry each scored one goal, and Ryan Nadeau had three assists. Kayla Dunn saved 26 shots.

Brandon Paul led Orono with two goals and Tony Raymond added one, the first of the game. Chris McConnon had two assists. David Eugley and Jarrod Bussell combined to save 27 shots.
