FARMINGTON – A company that provides messaging services to doctors nationwide will take over a former MBNA credit card call center with plans to employ more than 120 people.

NotifyMD, based in Franklin, Tenn., announced Tuesday it will occupy a 10,000-square-foot building that formerly housed the financial services operations of the MBNA credit card company. When Bank of America acquired MBNA earlier this year, it closed four of MBNA’s call centers in Farmington, Fort Kent, Portland and Presque Isle.

NotifyMD provides messaging services to doctors, such as after-hours messaging and automated patient reminders. It has a client base of about 18,000 physicians in more than 40 states.

NotifyMD is calling the Farmington operation its national “care coordination center.”

The company said it expects the Farmington site to be operational by March 1. The first employees will be hired early next year.
