PORTLAND – The Boston Red Sox announced Tuesday that Arnie Beyeler has been named the manager of the Double-A affiliate Portland Sea Dogs for the 2007 season. Beyeler replaces Todd Claus and becomes the ninth manager in Sea Dogs history.

The 2007 season will be Beyeler’s seventh season as a manager and the first at the Double-A level. Beyeler, 42, served as the hitting coach in 2006 for the San Diego Padres Double-A affiliate, the Mobile Bay Bears. He was also an assistant coach under Claus for the West Oahu Cane Fires in the Hawaiian Winter Baseball League.

Beyeler spent three years managing in the Texas Rangers organization where he led the Stockton Ports to the California League playoffs in 2003 and 2004.
