BANGOR – Area families reported that Thanksgiving feasts tasted more wholesome after donating money for fresh pies at the Airport Mall on Nov. 22. The event raised $800 for United Cerebral Palsy’s programs and services.
UCP volunteer coordinator Deb Perro, an employee of Eastern Maine Community College, led the charge for the annual Thanksgiving event by soliciting an assortment of 100 pies from volunteer bakers. Gratified by the outpouring of support, Perro had only one regret: “Next year, we need to ask our bakers for more apple pies.”
UCP’s executive director, Bobbi Jo Yeager, expressed her appreciation for the pie sale tradition.
She said, “UCP is all about families and we’re delighted to be part of this meaningful Thanksgiving tradition.” She added a special thank you to Eastern Maine Community College for embracing UCP’s pie sale as one of its 40 community service projects to support in its 40th year.
United Cerebral Palsy serves children and adults living with disabilities, providing early childhood education programs, social work and case management services, resident transitional housing, respite care, physical and occupational therapy, and behavioral health and day habilitation services.
