DEXTER – Two teenage pedestrians got the scare of their lives Tuesday when a group of other teenagers jumped out of a motor vehicle and assaulted them on Zion’s Hill Road.

The two boys reportedly were assaulted while being held by four of the five teenagers who had climbed out of the motor vehicle, according to Dexter Police Chief Art Roy. Roy said one of the boys received a slight cut from a knife during the unprovoked attack but the injury did not require medical attention. The victims told police they did not know their attackers.

Dexter police also are investigating five motor vehicle burglaries that were reported Wednesday.

Roy said the vehicles burglarized were on Beech and Forest streets. All but one of the vehicles had been left unlocked and the keys to two of the vehicles had been left inside, according to Roy. The vehicles were ransacked but it did not appear anything was taken from them, he said.

The vehicle that had been locked was damaged during the burglary attempt, Roy said. A sharp instrument was used to cut a window to gain access into the vehicle, he noted.

Roy cautioned residents to make sure their vehicles are locked and that valuables have been removed before retiring for the night.

A reported burglary on Jackson Street also is under investigation. An apartment owner told police Wednesday that someone entered his home through an unlocked window and took a video game system valued at $600, $25 worth of food and a DVD.
