The article “Martin targets smokers who get Medicaid” (BDN, Dec. 14) was something whose time has come. The Legislature has to do something to cut costs, and if giving people on Medicaid or Mainecare some help in quitting smoking, we should be all for and not against “civil liberties” like Shenna Bellows of the Maine Civil Liberties Union thinks.
Those on Mainecare don’t seem to realize that someone else is paying for their healthcare in the form of medicine, oxygen, home care, doctor visits and the rest. Why not support Sen. Martin instead of rejecting his ideas.
