A Bangor police officer sitting in his cruiser at Leadbetter’s Super Stop on Stillwater Avenue just after midnight Tuesday noticed a speeding pickup truck leaving the parking lot, stopped it and discovered it had a stolen plow on the front.

Before being stopped by police at 12:19 a.m., the driver, Glenburn resident Richard Watson, 22, took a right turn onto Essex Street and apparently threw a pair of bolt cutters out the passenger-side window. They later were recovered by police.

During the investigation, Watson admitted to taking the Fisher plow, valued at $4,500, saying he was asked to do so by a friend. After being told the store was under surveillance, he admitted to cutting the chain that secured the plow and then mounting it onto his Dodge Durango.

Watson, who is on probation, was arrested on a theft charge and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Tuesday evening. He is scheduled to be in front of a 3rd District Court judge in Bangor on Feb. 9.

A Hudson man’s ride on a skateboard down College Avenue was disrupted Monday afternoon after Orono police pulled him over and summoned him for possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

Marcus Estabrook, 29, was riding his skateboard in the driving lane of College Avenue, near Riverdale Street, when Officer Jason Zalva passed him in the opposite lane. Zalva then “pulled over” Estabrook and noticed a large, cylinder-shaped bulge under his shirt.

Although the object looked like a weapon concealed under Estabrook’s clothing, the officer later identified it as a plastic bag which contained marijuana.

The bag did not contain enough marijuana to be considered for distribution charges, said Sgt. Scott Wilcox of the Orono Police Department.

Police are investigating.

The rear window of a truck was smashed Monday night at The Fairfield Inn on Odlin Road in Bangor. Police said a digital camera, a briefcase and a pack of Marlboro Lights cigarettes were missing from the truck.

The window had been broken with a running board that was in the bed of the truck between 9 p.m. Monday and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. The damage is assessed at $500. There are no suspects at this time.
