JUSTIN BROWN
A forward on the Hampden Academy boys basketball team, Brown sparked the Broncos to their first two victories of the season. He had nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds in a 50-37 victory over Brewer, then scored a game-high 14 points as Hampden improved to 2-2 with a 62-39 win against Skowhegan.
Small School (Classes C-D)
TIM CARLSON
A guard on the Central Aroostook of Mars Hill boys basketball team, Carlson averaged 22.5 points per game in two wins for the two-time defending Class D state champions. Carlson scored 23 points during a 56-39 victory at Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, then followed with 22 – including the 1,000th point of his career – in a 63-32 win over Fort Fairfield.
GIRLS
Big School (Classes A-B)
ANGELA NORSWORTHY
A 5-foot-10 center for the Presque Isle basketball team, Norsworthy led the Wildcats to two wins last weekend. She scored 24 points, including an 8-for-10 effort from the free-throw line, in a 55-49 win over Mount Desert Island Friday. The next day Norsworthy scored 18 points in a 49-27 victory over Ellsworth.
Small School (Classes C-D)
MINDY CHASSE
Chasse, a 5-8 junior center who is averaging 21.8 points per game for the 3-2 Ashland girls basketball team, scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 59-56 win over Southern Aroostook Saturday. She had a team-high 13 points in a loss to Greater Houlton Christian Monday.
