Having designed and built the Bounty Taverne, I was both pleased and saddened to read the article “Come sail away …” (BDN, Dec. 16-17) about its planned destruction. Pleased to learn how many folks had such fond memories of having enjoyed themselves aboard the vessels that I had so lovingly created, and saddened to learn that my pride and joy is to be no more. It is almost like losing a child.

One builds an edifice and just assumes that it will exist in perpetuity, but not so, especially in today’s world. I imagine that my signature still resides in the darkest corner of the hull, and will until the wrecking ball lays waste to the ship.

Goodbye Bounty…
