Running backs Aaron Champagne of Lawrence of Fairfield and Jared Turcotte of Lewiston and quarterback Chris Treister of Portland have been named finalists for the annual James J. Fitzpatrick Trophy.
The trophy, given annually to the top senior high school football player in the state, will be presented during a banquet in Portland on Jan. 14.
Champagne led Lawrence to an undefeated season and the Class A championship. He rushed for more than 1,200 yards and scored 11 touchdowns, while ranking second in his class academically.
Treister passed for 1,846 yards and rushed for 574 yards for Portland, while Turcotte rushed for 1,813 yards and scored 23 touchdowns for Lewiston.
Other semifinalists for the award were Josh Ranger of Hampden Academy, Max Baillargeon of Thornton Academy of Saco, Ben Delcourt of Bonny Eagle of Standish, Jon Mitchell of Gorham, Brandon Morrow of Maranacook of Readfield, Andrew Pochebit of Cheverus of Portland and Brian Sandora of Deering of Portland.
