PALMYRA – Details were sketchy Sunday regarding a reported assault Saturday evening in the parking lot of Wal-Mart.

A woman assaulted another woman, according to police, and somehow a 1-year-old child was either thrown or dropped during the fight.

Sgt. Louis Nyitray of the Maine State Police said neither the child nor the woman was seriously injured, but they each were taken by ambulance to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for treatment.

Nyitray said the investigating officer either already has charged the woman accused in the assault or will charge her soon with assault and violation of a protection-from-abuse order.

The officer, Trooper Hugh Landry, did not return a call for information Saturday night and was unavailable for comment Sunday.

Nyitray did not know what the argument was about and could not identify the accused by name or hometown.
