NORTHPORT – A local woman was arrested Christmas evening after allegedly assaulting a male friend and smashing his window with a pickax.

Melinda Way, 29, of Prescott Hill Road was arrested on charges of assault and criminal mischief after the Monday evening attack.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Robert Keating said Sgt. James Porter was dispatched to the Bayside neighborhood at about 5:25 p.m. Monday after a man called to report that he had been assaulted by his girlfriend and that she had taken a pickax to one of his windows. The woman then allegedly threw the pickax into the ocean, Keating said.

When Porter arrived at the Bayside Docks, he placed Way under arrest and took her to the Waldo County Jail. She later was released on $200 bail.
