Glenburn man caught speeding found to have 2 arrest warrants

VEAZIE – What started out as a speeding violation Tuesday ended up with a Glenburn man being arrested for several infractions.

Brandon Homstead, 24, was stopped for speeding around 4 p.m. Tuesday on School Street when police clocked him driving 48 mph in a 25 mph zone.

He had no license or registration with him, according to Veazie Police Chief Mark Leonard. Homstead initially identified himself as Jacob Homstead, but the false name couldn’t be found in the system.

Eventually police determined the man’s true identity and learned that he had two active arrest warrants and that his driver’s license had been suspended.

Homstead was arrested by Veazie Police Officer T.J. Warner for the outstanding warrants, violation of bail, operating after suspension, attaching false plates, speeding and an expired inspection sticker. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail where he remained Wednesday afternoon.

After Homstead was taken to jail, police interviewed his female passenger, Hayley Cannon, 24, of Bangor.

Cannon’s license also was suspended, so the vehicle was towed, Leonard said.

Cannon was summoned for theft of lost property for taking license plates she said she found on the side of the road and giving them to Homstead to attach to the vehicle. Cannon is expected to appear Feb. 8, 2007, at 3rd District Court in Bangor.
