KITTERY – A new commander has been appointed to head the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Capt. Robert Mazzone will take over command from Capt. Jonathan Iverson after serving as operations officer for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility in Bremerton, Wash. He has served there since June 2006.

He joined the Navy in 1983 as a medical services corps officer.
