They might be one of the fastest growing networks on TV, but since G4 launched in 2002, it hasn’t entered the realm of reality – until now.
With the start of a new year, the network is gearing up to premiere its first-ever original reality show titled “The Block.”
The show is set at Lake Tahoe Hotel, the first hotel chain that truly appreciates and caters to everything snowboarder.
The first of its kind, each suite has its own creative twist with features such as a sit-down arcade stand, unique 1980s design or even padded walls and stripper poles. Each room also comes complete with a PlayStation 2, boot and glove dryers for when you come off the slopes, a cordless phone and iPod-compatible stereos.
And instead of mints on your pillow and mini coffee makers, when they check in each guest receives free snacks, DVDs and video games, as well as energy drinks and beer for those over 21.
Catering to the snowboard crowd, the hotel is the perfect site for “The Block,” which explores the wild lifestyle of the snowboarding world. The show “combines hard-core riding on the slopes with the crazy lives of the hotel’s staff, as they interact with the guests, pro snowboarders, bands and celebrities who make the hotel their winter home,” according to the G4 Web site.
After seeing a little more booty than I wanted to in “The Block” hot tub, I wasn’t surprised to learn that the G4 network is geared toward males ages 18 to 34.
I haven’t seen a preview yet, but the commercials are jam-packed with drama.
The show’s Web site also is set to feature a 24-hour live webcam watching “The Block’s” party deck and Web exclusive video.
In the Bangor area, G4 is available via DIRECTV channel 354 and DISH Network Channel 191.
For a sneak peek, check out “The Block” at 11 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, before the show premieres during its regular time slot at 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15.
