HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – The University of Maine-Fort Kent men’s basketball team ran into a Canadian buzz saw this weekend at the Rod Shoveller Memorial Tournament at Dalhousie University.
Dalhousie knocked off the UMFK Bengals 93-68 Friday, the University of Quebec at Montreal topped UMFK 103-64 Saturday, and the Montmorency Nomades defeated the Bengals 95-76 on Sunday.
The games were exhibition contests for the Bengals.
On Sunday, Marc-David Vil scored 31 points, dished out five assists and grabbed six rebounds for Montmorency.
Gediminas Sumyla had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Bengals. Jimmy Lopes also had 19 and Ymir Gal had 18 points, seven boards and five assists.
On Saturday, Mckenzi Debrosse led five UQAM double-digit scorers with 23 points. Arthaud Plesius added 18 points and Kevin Boucher had 12 rebounds.
Jimmy Lopez scored 19 points for the Bengals and Yair Gal added 13 points and nine assists. Starting guard Rytis Kriunas injured his knee and left the game in the second half.
On Friday, Monte Francois scored a game-high 24 points to lead five players in double figures.
Sumyla led UMFK with 17 points and six rebounds. Lopez scored 15 and Kriunas had 13.
