Slippery roads blamed in four-vehicle crash

ORRINGTON – Slick roads were believed to be the cause of a four-vehicle crash in Orrington on Monday afternoon.

The accident on Route 15 was reported around 12:15 p.m. One of the vehicles lost control on the icy road, crossed the centerline and collided with another vehicle in the adjacent lane, causing two more cars that were trying to avoid the accident to crash.

Four of the six people involved in the chain-reaction crash were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and one man was sent to the trauma unit, according to Kenny Williams, Penobscot sheriff’s deputy in Orrington. Names were unavailable at press time.

Williams said both the man’s arms had been broken by the impact and that he suffered several other injuries. Another woman broke her sternum and other drivers and passengers received lesser injuries, bumps and bruises.

Two trucks and one car were totaled in the accident, according to Williams. Crews from Orrington and Brewer fire departments, Capital Ambulance and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department responded.
