Texas fugitive nabbed in Maine after chase

DAMARISCOTTA – Police arrested a fugitive over the weekend who was wanted in Texas for probation violation and failing to report a change of address as a registered sex offender.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department received word over the weekend that Russell Lailer, 38, of Conroe, Texas, might be staying in the coastal town of Bristol.

When deputies found him in a trailer late Saturday night, Lailer fled on foot, according to Sheriff Todd Brackett. The suspect was spotted again in Damariscotta Sunday morning and led police on a six-mile chase on foot through woods before he was apprehended two hours later.

Lailer was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a fugitive from justice.

He was being held in the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
