Supporting laid-off workers
BANGOR – Bangor Savings Bank Senior Vice President Yellow Light Breen announced recently that a $5,000 commitment has been made to unemployed workers this holiday season. The gift is structured as a match in order to elict contributions from others.
At a press conference, Bangor Savings joined United Way of Eastern Maine and the Eastern Maine Labor Council in support of laid-off workers and their families.
Jen Brooks, Penquis CAP’s community relations manager, explained, “Our goal is to assist 300 people with the benefit of 100 gallons of oil or equivalent. Our monetary goal is $67,500.”
Breen said, “People in Maine look first to their neighbors for help. As a member of the Eastern Maine community, we are proud to help meet the critical needs of our neighbors this holiday season and throughout the year. When there’s a need, we must respond.”
The contribution comes on the heels of a $5,000 Bangor Savings Bank gift to Crossroads Ministries, $5,000 to sponsor a peer support worker, and $3,000 to Manna Ministries at Thanksgiving. This year, Bangor Savings Bank and the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation have contributed more than $700,000 in charitable donations to the communities they serve throughout Maine.
Innkeepers’ group
The Maine Innkeepers Association, a provider of information and support to the lodging and tourism industry of Maine, announced that Bob Smith of Sebasco Harbor Resort in Sebasco Estates has been re-elected as president; and that Ron Churchill, Bear Spring Camps, Rome, will continue as chairman of the board for 2007.
New members of the 2007 Executive Committee include Connie Russell of the Samoset Resort in Rockport, at-large member; and Peter Daigle of Lafayette Hotels, a past veteran of the executive committee.
Daigle returns by virtue of the legislative committee chairman being added to the executive committee due to a by-laws change made at the 85th annual meeting.
