AUGUSTA – The Maine House has voted to seat two members whose contested elections led to recounts, completing the chamber’s roster for the two-year legislative session.

Without discussion, the House voted Wednesday to seat Republican Rep. Gary Moore from District 102 in Standish and Democrat Patricia Sutherland of Chapman in District 7.

In doing so, the House accepted a recommendation from the bipartisan Elections Committee, which refereed the contested elections. It leaves the Democrats with an 88-61 edge over the Republicans. Two seats are held by independents.

In District 102, Democrat Michael Shaw withdrew so there would be no need for a special election to decide the outcome of a race in which no winner could be determined.
