ELLSWORTH – A second Bucksport High School student has been charged with terrorizing in connection with a music CD he and a friend created that included violent lyrics depicting a shooting spree at a high school.

The Hancock County District Attorney’s Office has filed formal charges in 5th District Court in Ellsworth against Colton Crane, 17. Crane is scheduled to make his first appearance in court today.

Crane and fellow student Jonathan Hayes, 17, are the members of a band that created the CD and who wrote and performed the songs on it.

Several of the songs contained disturbing lyrics, but the one that drew attention from authorities was “Shotgun Killing Spree,” which described a shooting spree inside a high school.

Although the song did not mention anyone by name, it specifically referred to the shooting of the principal and vice principal as well as teachers and students. The lyrics also mentioned Columbine High School, and at the end of the song, referred to Bucksport High School.

The District Attorney’s Office charged Hayes in December.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Kellett did not comment directly on Crane’s case this week, but has said previously that the charge of terrorizing against the students is warranted whether they intended to act on the threat or not.

Police and school administrators, as well as teachers, some students and parents, took the song lyrics seriously.

The two teens were suspended from school and eventually expelled. The graphic descriptions of the shooting spree in the lyrics also prompted school officials and police to tighten security at the high school.

Some parents kept students home, because they were afraid to attend classes.
