Benefit slated for Bar Harbor fisherman

MOUNT DESERT – A benefit dinner and auction for a Bar Harbor fisherman injured last month has been scheduled for this weekend.

The event, which will feature food and live music, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Neighborhood House on Main Street in the local village of Northeast Harbor. The suggested donation is $10 per adult and $5 for each child.

Paul Rozeff, 33, was on his boat the Tasha Lyn in Southwest Harbor on Dec. 20 when the U.S. Coast Guard received a report that the vessel was on fire. Rozeff’s clothing was caught in the boat’s engine, which started smoking heavily during the incident.

Before the Coast Guard got to the boat from the local station, Rozeff had been freed from the engine but had suffered several injuries. He was hospitalized and is expected to miss several months of work, leaving him and his family in a financial bind.

Sunday’s event will offer food from several Hancock County eateries, including Mother’s Kitchen and Morning Glory Bakery in Bar Harbor and Mano’s Market in Hancock. It also will include a raffle on some donated fishing equipment and a silent auction on items such as gift certificates and merchandise from area businesses.
