Eastern Maine Community College and Husson College have teamed up to make it easier for education students at EMCC to pursue a bachelor’s degree and join Maine’s teacher work force.
The agreement puts forth specific requirements, which when met, guarantee EMCC education students admission into one of Husson’s education programs. The EMCC education students must achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, pass the PRAXIS I teaching exam and receive a grade of C or higher in classes whose credits transfer to Husson.
Participating full-time students would study for two years at EMCC and two years at Husson.
“This is an important opportunity for our students,” said Connie Ronco, department chair of EMCC’s education and early childhood education programs, in a prepared statement. “This agreement will allow our students to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Husson College and teacher certification from the state of Maine.”
“This articulation agreement is a wonderful example of a public-private education partnership that brings more and better opportunities to students in Central and Eastern Maine,” said Julie Green, director of public affairs at Husson College, in an e-mail to the Bangor Daily News. “We have had a long and healthy partnership with EMCC and this is another step forward for Maine students.”
