BANGOR – Catalytic converters were stolen out of two Toyota Tundra pickup trucks in a parking lot of Eastern Maine Medical Center on Wednesday, according to police.

One of the owners noticed that his vehicle rumbled oddly when he started it, according to police reports. When he examined the vehicle he noticed that the catalytic converter was missing.

Police and EMMC security both responded to the site bordered by Otis and Garland streets. When they investigated the parking lot they found another Tundra nearby was missing a catalytic converter and had a new scuff on the driver’s side door.

The parts are valued at about $1,300 each, according to police reports.

Police officials say that these are just the latest in a string of catalytic converter thefts.
