At least two stores have left or will soon leave the Bangor Mall, but a mall official says it is no cause for alarm. They are likely to be filled.

Loose Moose Cafe has closed. Bangor Mall manager James Gerety said he could offer no comment, and the owner of the small restaurant could not be reached for comment.

Drugstore CVS has decided not to renew its lease, Gerety said. CVS corporate communications manager Mike DeAngelis said the store will remain open until 9 p.m. Saturday.

“The closing of this store does not mean we are not interested in finding another opportunity to open a new store in Bangor, this one with a pharmacy,” DeAngelis said.

Entertainment store FYE remains in business but in response to rumors of its closing, Gerety said, “It is still in operation. It is under lease negotiations.”

The spokesperson for Trans World Entertainment Corp., FYE’s parent company, could not be reached for comment.

Gerety said the empty stores are likely to be filled.

“There is all kinds of leasing activity in the pipeline,” Gerety said. He said he was not at liberty to disclose the names of any new businesses that might occupy the storefronts.

In response questions about a rumor that the Bangor Mall will build an addition to accommodate a Barnes and Noble bookstore, Gerety said, “It is one of many possible projects.”

Barnes and Noble owns three stores in Maine: Barnes and Noble in Augusta and B. Dalton in the Bangor Mall and in Presque Isle.

Gerety said the closings do not represent a slowing of mall business.

“What’s most important is that there is lots of action,” Gerety said.
