Cushman helps Bapst upset Lynx

BANGOR – Ethan Cushman scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead John Bapst to a 65-53 victory over previously unbeaten Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln in a Class B boys basketball game Saturday at the Bangor Auditorium.

Aaron Healey added 17 points for the Crusaders.

Derek Libbey paced the Lynx with 26 points.

At the T.J. Ryan Center, Brewer, Troy Gaudet scored the game-winning goal with 3:20 left in overtime to lift Hampden Academy to the upset win over Maranacook of Readfield.

Ethan Chase scored a goal on assists from D.J. Duplissis and Mike Mourkas with 10:24 left in regulation to tie the score for the 1-9 Crusaders. Matt Albert stopped 28 of 29 shots.

Cory Palmer scored just 1:13 into the game on a Michael Brennan assist for the 6-2 Black Bears. Kyle Vorpagel made 23 saves on 25 shots.

JV: Maranacook 4-1

Brewer 4, Cape Elizabeth 3 (OT)

At the T.J. Ryan Center, Brewer, David Perry scored three goals including the game winner with 3:14 left in overtime to lead Brewer past Cape Elizabeth.

Reid McLaughlin added a goal and an assist for the 9-2 Witches. Marc Relford, Jim Nicknair, Chris Lopez and Perry each had an assist. Kayla Dunn stopped 25 of 28 shots.

Ben Davis scored twice for 3-8 Cape Elizabeth. Andrew Gibson had a goal and two assists and Sam St. Germain provided an assist. Phil Jordan made 30 saves on 34 shots.

Bangor 1, Cheverus 1 (OT)

At Sawyer Arena, Bangor, Cam Spring scored the tying goal off of a Ryan McDounagh assist 14:47 into the second period to force an overtime tie for Cheverus of Portland with Bangor.

Mason St. Hillaire made 22 saves on 23 shots for 3-4-1 Cheverus.

Jon Hyatt scored on assists from Alex Mooers and Ted Murray 3:56 into the second period for the 6-3-1 Rams. Andrew Riley stopped 32 of 33 shots.

At Sawyer Arena, Bangor, Casey Hull scored two goals and assisted another to lift John Bapst over Stearns of Millinocket.

Ethan Sale had a goal and an assist for the 8-3 Crusaders and Alex Yates scored a goal. Derrick Antworth, Josh Hunnefeld, and Travis Poulin provided assists. Doug Dieuveuil made seven saves on nine shots.

Justin Pelkey had a goal and an assist for the 2-5 Minutemen and Jake Emery scored. Nate Cyr provided an assist as Paul Rucci stopped 23 of 27 shots.

At Greenville, Hannah Breton scored 15 points and totaled 14 rebounds to lift Greenville over East Grand of Danforth.

Aarika Ritchie led the Pandas with 18 points and eight rebounds and Dana Houlton had 11 points.
