WASHBURN – Alex Bird sank a free throw and then hit a short jumper in overtime to give Washburn the lead for good at 36-35 en route to a pointworthy 38-35 Class D girls basketball victory over Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics Wednesday.
Sara Davis’ layup provided some insurance.
Kelsee McLaughlin had 14 points for the Beavers and Erica McDougall sent the game into overtime by grabbing an offensive rebound and hitting a jumper with 25 seconds left.
Julie Peers had 12 points for the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics. The Eagles only two losses have been to Washburn.

It was Limestone’s third win in five days including two over Van Buren.
Danny Hayes had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles and Steve Giangiordano had eight more.
