Hey kids! We’re looking for ‘Hill of Fame’ nominees

Hey, you.

No, not you. You. The 9-year-old in the pink snowsuit and green mittens. And you, the third-grader with the Patriots hat and beet-red cheeks.

The Bangor Daily News needs your help.

See, now that we finally have some snow, we have a question we’ve been itching to ask for months now. And only you, the kids of eastern Maine, can give us the answer.

We want to know where the best, most gravity-defying, toe-curling sledding in the state is. The place you go when there are a few inches of white stuff on the ground and school’s been called off. Where you fearlessly launch yourself off the top of the hill and zoom to the bottom – and then run right back up and do it all over again.

Send us the location of the spot, why you think it’s such a great place to sled, your name, your parents’ names if you’re under age 12, and your telephone number. Tell your siblings, teachers and schoolmates about the search, so more people can join in the fun. We will announce the results in a later edition of the BDN.

You can contact the Bangor Daily News two ways: by sending an e-mail to reporter Emily Burnham at eburnham@bangordailynews.net, or by sending a letter to Style Desk Best Sledding Places, c/o Bangor Daily News, 491 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401. One vote per person. And yes, grown-ups can vote too.

There are two rules. The first is that the place must be open to the public. No private property – your grandparents may have an amazing hill, but do they really want a bunch of strangers coming over to sled? The second is that it must be safe. As in, you won’t slide off a cliff or into oncoming traffic. Ask your parents if you’re not sure how safe it is.

The deadline for entries is Thursday, Feb. 1, so what are you waiting for? Grab that sled, that toboggan or that inner tube and hit the slopes.
