Healthful eating

I read with interest the article by Hannah Lupien on “The Cost of Healthful Food is Prohibitive to the Poor.”

Why do people immediately think you need to buy expensive low-fat, low-sugar foods or go on a special diet to lose weight? Anyone can afford canned vegetables, beans, fruits, bags of apples, oranges or potatoes. Common sense is key to weight loss. A serving size is about a half cup of vegetables or fruit or just an apple or an orange. Healthful food is affordable.

Abstaining (from junk foods) is good for the soul and the waist line. It’s what you put in your mouth that makes you fat or skinny and no doctor can control that, only you.

A treat a week is healthy!
