I like many in Maine am addicted to cigarettes. This is not a choice I made as an adult, but rather as a stupid teenager of 13. I am 62 now, and in good health. After trying to quit many times, using gum, patches, even willpower, I came to the conclusion that I cannot quit this dirty addiction.
Putting more taxes on cigarettes is not helping me or the state of Maine. Let’s be fair and add additional tax on the other sins of man. How about $3 more on fine wine and hard liquor? Better yet, let’s run this state on the high taxes we already have.
This is not about the anti-smoking crusade, but about raising taxes.
