Three receive minor injuries in Bangor crash

A three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Broadway and Stillwater Avenue in Bangor Friday sent three people to the hospital with minor injuries. Responders used the Jaws of Life to remove one person from their car, according to the police report.

The chain-reaction crash started around 4:40 p.m. when Gloria Roy, 72, of Eddington, who was traveling down Broadway, tried to turn her 1992 Buick sedan left onto North Park Street. When she did this, she cut in front of a 1999 Plymouth van driven by Jason Robbins, 24, of Glenburn that was coming from the opposite direction.

Robbins slammed into the left side of Roy’s car, which spun around and struck the front of 37-year-old Michele Campbell’s 2002 Chevy SUV.

Robbins was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center with minor injuries and was later released. The names of two other people taken to the hospital were not known Friday night, but it appears they were passengers because neither Roy nor Campbell was in the hospital’s records, according to hospital officials.

Roy’s Buick suffered an estimated $6,500 worth of damage and the extrication device was used to get one of her three passengers out. Robbins’ van received about $2,500 in damage, and Campbell’s SUV about $1,000, according to the police report.

A Searsport man was summoned for theft after he stole about $150 worth of memory sticks, DVDs and Sharpie pens from the Bangor Wal-Mart, according to a police report.

A loss prevention officer told Bangor police he had Robert Seekins, 24, in the security office. When the officer arrived, loss prevention personnel pointed out a pickup truck in the parking lot where Seekins had dropped off some of the merchandise. A woman in the car returned all the items to the officer.

The loss prevention officer told police that he was in the men’s room when he heard a noise that sounded like packages were being opened in a nearby stall.

He followed Seekins out of the bathroom and later out of the store and watched him go to the truck. Seekins returned to the store to watch the woman he was with pay for her items. The loss prevention officer stopped him before he left again.

The police officer found a box cutter in Seekins’ pocket and asked what it was for. Seekins admitted he used it to open packages and shoplift things.

Seekins is scheduled to appear in Bangor District Court on March 4.

A Bingham man was arrested after police in Orono caught him urinating in a hallway at an Orchard Trails apartment building late Thursday night.

Orono police responded to a noise complaint in Building 9 of the complex just before midnight. They arrived and saw Nathan Gilbert, 20, urinating against a wall. When they asked for his name, Gilbert called himself Nathan Philips and then lied about his age, Orono police said.

Police charged Gilbert with disorderly conduct, possession of liquor by a minor, and failure to give correct name and date of birth. He was transported to Penobscot County Jail, where he spent the night.
